The background
The London 2012 Olympics closing ceremony has been roundly praised by key commentators in the mainstream media but it did not go down quite so well on micro-blogging website Twitter, where it was blasted as sacharine, cheesy (in a bad way), and compared unfavourably to Danny Boyle’s opening ceremony.

“I’m sad because every time I think of London 2012 I’ll think of a huge demountable model of John Lennon’s face” says Lynne Truss

Closing ceremony was piss poor. About as good a representation of Britain as Greg Rusedski was!

To be fair, closing ceremony had impossibly high standards to live up to. And it’s not that bad. Just a bit Radio 1 circa 1993

Closing ceremony fatigue. Too much Brian May, not enough Mo Farrah.
