Twisters (2024) Review

Kate a retired tornado-chaser is persuaded to return to Oklahoma to work with a new team collecting data to try and help people survive when a tornado hits. Leaving the comfort of her computer in NYC.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The opening scene we see Kate and her friends chasing a tornado and attempting to put her theories into practice and be able to stop and tame the tornando. What they didn’t account for was that it was going to be higher on the scale than they had realised. She had studied this and wanted to achieve the impossible since she as a young child.

Five years later we see her living in New York City and still working within meteorology but in a safer place than her hometown. Still carrying the trauma of what happened, never returning home even to see her mother, and not taking her calls either. Javi sees the only opportunity to try and get her to help him and his company is to go and see her, managing to negotiate a week as the data he wants to collect really could change everything.

What she didn’t count on was Tyler a rather reckless social media storm chasing superstar, who is actually a lot more than he first appears to be. He is massively crazy and with his team he has Ben, a reporter from London who was writing an article on storm chasers.

In terms of the different sub plots they do have plenty of twists and turns, but nothing that isn’t obvious or predictable. However, that doesn’t take anything away from the enjoyable nature of the film. I liked the characters and wanted to see them survive and succeed. The storm chasing scenes manage to increase your anxiety levels in such a great way that you will be well and truly on the edge of your seat.

Performances were all good and I have to say a very impressive cast line up was put together for Twisters. I am truly in the Glen Powell era, let’s face it right now it is just his world and we are all happy to live in it, right? Daisy Edgar-Jones was engaging enough as well, working well with Powell and Anthony Ramos. Harry Hadden-Patton was a total scene stealer for the comedy value that’s for sure!
