Following a string of sold-out shows and hype from all the good places, Twat Union have released ‘Singer of the Band’. It’s the first song to be taken from forthcoming EP ‘Don’t Look It in the Eye’, coming out via Alcopop! Records on 4 April 2025.
Angry art punk with a sensationally squalid jazzy tone at times, their self-proclaimed thrashy sound fits somewhere between Squid, The Fall and Fight Like Apes – with understandably scathing words about being called ‘love’, ‘darling’ and the repeated observation from men that ‘You must be the singer of the band’ when they plug in their instruments.
It’s all delivered with biting wit: ‘Oh my god, is it an all-girl band? Yeah, we can put you on for International Women’s Day’. Fightpop is making a comeback. And Twat Union are leading the charge.
