Camp  STARRING: Rachel Griffiths and a bunch of kids

CREATED BY: Peter Elkoff, Liz Heldens, and Jessica Goldberg

Well, this is going to be brief. Rachel Griffiths deserves so much better than this. I hope the money was good. This is one of the worst pilots I’ve seen in recent memory. The shows super basic plot is that a group of teens/college aged kids are at a summer camp, and they bond. Rachel Griffiths owns the camp, and is going through a messy divorce. There’s a rival camp nearby, with a charming british owner that Griffiths sleeps with in the pilot. Some of the main kids are outcasts, of course. One has leukemia, another got in trouble for flashing her boobs. At some point, Griffiths will hook up with one of the young counselors who has the hots for her. We’ll all learn to be more accepting of gays, and everyone will wonder where the kids are.

WHERE ARE THE KIDS? There are almost no kids. All of the teens here look much older than the roles they’re playing, and they’re all terribly uncharismatic and horrible actors. ABC family has crafted similar shows in the past, but has selected a much better crop of kids for their cast. This is a D-list show that actually sucks all the fun out of camp. The only saving grace is Rachel Griffiths, who wasn’t told she was in the middle of a crap fest. She’s always fun to watch. There are way too many adults and teen counselors here, and not that many actual kids. Who are they counseling? Everyone here seems to be over 16.

I’m really disappointed.

FINAL GRADE: D
