TV Priest – ‘Slideshow’

TV Priest have shared ‘Slideshow’, the fourth single to be taken from their upcoming debut album ‘Uppers’ (out on 13 November via Hand in Hive). The band have received praise from BBC 6 Music, Steve Lamacq, Jack Saunders and so many others over the past few months.

‘Slideshow’ finds frontman Charlie Drinkwater offering biting, satirical observations on the scroll and swipe screen-led culture that so many of us – Charlie included – have fallen into over the past decade and a half (has anyone else been absolutely horrified by their phone’s screen time during the pandemic?): ”Slideshow’ is about feeling mediated, manipulated, engaged, buoyed and repulsed in equal measures in our relationship to information, digital culture and the algotithmic pace of 21st century life’.

Opening with a blast of angular post-punk gutar riffs and a ferocious rhytm section that lands somewhere between The Fall and Fontaines D.C., Charlie talks about how much emphasis is put on engagement and reach in today’s digital world (‘it’s a numbers game’) before declaring ‘all I can do is talk, I’ll probably never have an original thought’.
