TV Priest – ‘Decoration’

TV Priest have shared the video (directed by Joe Wheatley) for ‘Decoration’ alongside news of signing to Sub Pop and their debut record ‘Uppers’ now being released on 5 February 2021 (pre-order from Sub Pop). Frontman Charlie Drinkwater on the new single: ‘We often think of it as a ‘walking down the road’ song, like you’re strolling along a street and lots of little vignettes of life are coming your way. The absurd in the mundane feels apt too. Once again this sense of a kind of late capitalism, Ayn Rand style ‘personal progression’ being an utter myth. It’s all just Decoration! Probably a favorite from the record.’

Opening with a blast of angular agit-punk guitar hooks and ferocious drumming, Charlie offers observations on the more ordinary aspects of modern life and how everything from observing what a dog is doing to choosing a paint color will see you through to the next round of this thing we call life. From pop culture (‘Did I see the TV adaptation of the latest book craze?’) to tempers fraying (‘Someone smashed the Sky+ box over Big John’s head and I signed for my neighbour’s parcel’), he declares how ‘it’s all just decoration’.
