Turning Your Box Room into a Guest Room

Many houses have a box room. One that'count as a bedroom in the properties description. I have one in my house, it's an odd shape with a big stair box thing.

We often use these rooms for storage or as closets. We fill them with the junk that we haven't gotten around to getting rid of or the things that we're not quite sure what to do with. What a waste of space this is. At some point, many of us consider using these tiny rooms as an office, especially if we're one of the nations many home workers. Or, we find ourselves in the position of having to turn it into a nursery. But, there is another option. If you don't need an office, and the kids all have bedrooms already, why not turn it into a cosy guest room?

Now so many of us move away from the places that we were born. We often live further than we'd like from our families. They visit but are then faced with either sleeping on the sofa, staying in a hotel or cutting their visit much shorter than they'd ideally like. A guest room gives visitors a place to stay comfortable. Which is especially useful if you've got family and friends out of town. Here are some ways that you can turn even the tiniest of rooms into a guest bedroom.

Add a heat source

The first thing that you need to do is make sure that your box room is comfortable. If it hasn't already got a radiator, consider installing one. If there's not much room, a vertical radiator which you will here find adds heat without taking up too much wall space.

Find the Right Bed

Finding a bed for a small room can be tough. If you can't comfortably fit a double in, opt for a Queen, which isn't quite as wide. You might also want to choose a bed with drawers underneath or even one with shelving to the side, so that there's no need for bedside tables. Remember, guests won't often stay too long, so this might be all the storage that they need.

Wall Mount

Adding a TV to your guest room is a great idea. It gives your guests something to do so that they don't feel like they have to go to sleep when you do or avoid getting up until someone else has. But, TVs take space. Wall mounting one is the obvious solution.

Wall mounting shelves also gives your guests a little extra storage space, while also giving you a place to add some fun accessories, a DVD player, lamps and clocks.

Keep the Colours Simple

When it comes to , it's only too easy to get carried away. But, a small room isn't the place to do it. If you want to add some bold colours do it with your soft furnishings and accessories. Keep the walls neutral and light to make the space feel larger.

Add Mirrors

Mirrors are a fantastic and easy way to make a small room feel bigger and brighter. Add a large feature mirror to the wall opposite your window to maximise the light and space.
