Turn Back Tuesday- the Marriage Contract by Cathy Maxwell

By Gpangel @gpangel1
I have missed the last several weeks of "Turn Back Tuesday"  so it's time to spotlight a book written before the year 2000.  This week's installment was actually published in 2001, but,  I decided to make an exception this one time.
Check out the third book in the Marriage Trilogy by Cathy Maxwell-
TURN BACK TUESDAY- THE MARRIAGE CONTRACT BY CATHY MAXWELLThe Marriage Contract (Marriage, #3)The Marriage Contract by Cathy Maxwell
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
This is the last in the "marriage " trilogy by Cathy Maxwell. Anne married Aiden by proxy. She must travel to Scotland to inform her husband he is married. It had been rumored for years that Aiden was mad. If you remember the last installment, Leah went to utter extremes to avoid the arranged marriage she was supposed to have with Aiden. But, when Anne meets her new husband, she finds he is quite sane, intelligent, and very attractive. However, Aiden doesn't want a wife and plans to send Anne back to England right away. Anne manages to convince Aiden to let her stay for awhile.
In the backdrop of the marriage issues, is the Rebellion. Although Aiden is English, he has Scottish roots and is a Laird. So, he is caught between the feelings of the Scottish people and wanting to stay out of the Rebellion.
This might be my favorite out of the trilogy. I liked the political intrigue and the way Anne persevered despite all the opposition she faced.
There were a few things that were less than perfect. The circumstances of their consummation was off. It just didn't seem the right time or place despite Aiden's explanation. Aiden's plan to get Anne to leave has been done before in one way or another in other historical romances. But, this plan went awry and that part if the story was brief.
I liked the ending where the three friends we met in the first book were reunited. Overall a B

Cathy’s Bio

I hail from: I was raised in Olathe, KS. I am a Kansan by nature–stubborn, loyal, independent. I now consider Virginia my home and think I have adapted well to the Southern way of life (although I’ll never be a good cook!)
My family: Children, two dogs, a cat, and two horses. They keep me busy, busy, busy.
My favorite quote: From Debbie Macomber, “Attitude is the key . . . each one of us is as successful as we make up our minds to be.”
My most embarrassing moment: I have many. I’m gullible. If you have a good practical joke, I’m the one to play it on.
I would dress for a costume party as: Wanda, the Good Witch. O to be perpetually pleasant! But notice that she didn’t put up with any nonsense from the Munchkins.
The most dangerous thing I have done: Marry a man I’d known less than a month. He made me laugh (and looked good in uniform). Kevin passed away almost twenty-five years to date he asked me to marry him. It was a great marriage. We both enjoyed a good laugh and I respected his compassion and generosity of spirit, two qualities that wore well over time.
My favorite hideaway: St. Croix. I savor the sound of waves on the beach and the sight of a clear, starry sky in the dead of winter.
You will never see me: With my mouth closed.
My hobby is: The kids and my community–and the horses. I own two and they devour my time and energy. My youngest daughter rides dressage. I get to ride whichever one she isn’t riding if I’m in good enough shape. Perhaps I should say I ride between falls. I seem to have difficulty staying on a horse even when it isn’t moving! But I still love ‘em.
You would never believe: That I’ve spent six years in the Navy. I worked in the Pentagon and did a tour with Naval Intelligence. I’ve also managed a watch factory, been a news broadcaster, and done costumes for local theater. Tinker, tailor, soldier, spy.
I started writing romance because: I’d always wanted to write a book. While devouring Jennifer Blake’s FIERCE EDEN, I knew that this was the book I wanted to write.
What is the most important element to a romance novel: The characters. Strong characters can carry a weak plot, but weak characters can never carry a strong plot. The latter is like biting into a juicy apple and finding out it’s nothing but mush inside.
My most recent re-release from Avon Books is FALLING IN LOVE AGAIN. This book is a fan favorite. There’s bedlam and bliss when a stubborn bride confronts her errant husband.
THE DEVIL’S HEART will be in stores April 30th. It’s the last book of The Chattan Series. Lady Margret Chattan and Heath Macnachtan are the hero and heroine in this novel.
