The charts above and below are from a new Quinnipiac University Poll -- done between January 5th and 9th of a random national sample of 1,106 voters, with a margin of error of 3.6 points.
It shows that Trump's numbers remain upside down, and are showing no sign of any improvement. The public disapproves of the job he is doing by a 23 point margin, thinks he is dishonest by a 29 point margin, and says he doesn't care about average Americans by a 21 point margin.
Quinnipiac also asked the poll respondents to grade Trump on his first year in office. About 32% gave him a grade of A or B, but a majority of 56% gave him a poor grade of D or F. Obviously, people don't think he's done a very good job in the last year.
They also think Trump has damaged the reputation of the United States in the world rather than repaired it -- by a whopping 40 point margin.
But the chart on the bottom will probably bother Trump the most. He quoted this poll as saying 66% are saying the economy right now is good. That is true -- the poll did say that. But he inferred that he is responsible for that. That ignores the next question the poll asked -- who is most responsible for that good economy? The public gave Obama more credit for it than Trump -- by a 9 point margin.
Trump has been unable to win over a majority of the public in his first year -- far from it. That tells me that he will have no coattails to help Republicans next November.
