Think the Trump regime hates refugees? Guess again!
In Mid-May a group of refugees was fulsomely welcomed here, indeed given VIP treatment. Flown in on a private charter plane and greeted by a delegation of top U.S. officials. After short-cutting the usual vetting process. They’ll be lavished “with housing, furniture and other household items, and expenses like groceries, clothing, diapers and more,” reports the AP.
That’s a “stated priority of the Administration,” following a Feb. 7 Trump executive order launching this particular refugee initiative.
Were they Afghans, fleeing Taliban repression, people targeted because they’d helped us there? Or from Haiti, collapsed into gang anarchy? Or Venezuelans, Cubans, or Nicaraguans, trying to escape brutal dictatorships? Uh, no, all those refugee admissions have been shut down.
I didn’t mention Sudan, engulfed in horrific civil war. Nor Gazans (whom Trump does want to relocate — but not here).

Unfortunately all those victims chose the wrong skin tone. The ones being welcomed are white — South African “Afrikaners,” mostly descendants of 19th century Dutch settlers. Now experiencing “racial discrimination and persecution,” says the Trump order.
Preposterous nonsense, deeply sick even by Trump standards. True, South Africa is mostly non-white, with some “affirmative action” policies — yet its white minority still enjoys a legacy of wealth, privilege, and power. Some even serving as government ministers. On the whole South Africa actually stands out, in today’s world, as an admirable paragon of ethnic inclusiveness and reconciliation.
So WTF is Trump up to, falsely calling Afrikaners victims of racism, to be welcomed as “refugees” to America? An America that’s slammed its door against virtually all true refugees?
What this is is pandering to those American whites — a key part of Trump’s political base — feeling they too are somehow victims of racial discrimination. Resenting that America no longer tolerates their white supremacist delusions.
Or at least didn’t, pre-Trump.
