Trump Blames Teleprompter For His Ignorance Of U.S. History
With his Fourth of July speech Donald Trump embarrassed himself (and the nation), and became the laughingstock of the internet. He decided to brag about some American history in his speech, but all he accomplished was to expose his ignorance of that history.
His erroneous statements are shown in the image above. And you don't need much of an education to know how wrong he was.
* He said the American Army was named after George Washington. It was not.
* He said the Continental Army "manned the air" and "took over the airports". Also untrue. The airplane had not yet been invented, so there were no airports.
* He said Fort McHenry "under the rocket's red glare, had nothing but victory" -- obviously referring to the poem that later became our national anthem. The problem is that happened in the War of 1812 -- not the Revolutionary War.
When asked about these glaring errors of history, Trump blamed the teleprompter he was using. He said it went out during the speech. That's a silly excuse. Even if it did go out (and I don't doubt that it did), that doesn't justify his statements.
Trump does OK when he reads his speech off a teleprompter (because he's just reading someone else's words). But when he veers from the prepared speech, or the teleprompter goes out, he just resorts to saying whatever he thinks sounds good. Most of the time, that is just telling lies. Other times, as in this case, he just displays his ignorance of the real facts.
You can't blame the teleprompter for this latest outrage. The truth is that Trump is an idiot, and simply doesn't care about facts or the truth. No other president, of either party, would have made such outrageous and untrue remarks about our nation's history.
