The Big Story: Trump Signs US Business Ban Orders With TikTok Owner ByteDance and WeChat from TencentBoth orders will go into effect in 45 days, but its specific impact is unclear as Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross apparently won't identify which transactions are covered until then.
This comes after Trump previously said he would ban TikTok unless the app was sold to an American owner. (Most notably Microsoft, which acknowledged it was in talks for the acquisition.)
TikTok responded against the order saying it was "issued without due process" and would risk "undermining the confidence of global businesses in the US commitment to the rule of law."
