In 2018, Truecaller had introduced the call recording feature for the first time. Later, when Google restricted access to the Accessibility API, Truecaller, like many other apps, had to walk back its call recording services. Now, the company is rolling out the recording feature to the US with plans of global rollouts in the future. They are taking the help of cloud telephony to achieve this.
The call recording feature will be available for US citizens for now in exchange for a $3.99 fee per month. The fee sits between the basic ad free plan and the premium plan with AI screening. Users can simply go to the Truecaller dialer and press the dedicated button for recording to start recording calls. If you are using a different dialer, for example, the inbuilt dialer of your phone, you can start recording by hitting a floating button on your screen.

According to Truecaller, the recording feature will record both sides of the conversation clearly. The recordings will be stored locally on your device. You’ll be able to access and manage them from your Truecaller app. iPhone users will be able to take backups of the call in their iCloud and Android users will be able to back the recordings up in their Google drive accounts.
There are some additional features that increase the value of the app. Truecaller is using AI to create short summaries and titles for your calls. Moreover, it is using Large Language Model (LLM) technology to auto-transcribe your calls.
It is yet unknown when these features will be made available for Truecaller’s global user base of over 350 million people. These additions will surely help the company rack up a higher number of paying customers.
