Thoughts on True Things

Characters & Performances

Kate is a welfare officer that is helping people get back on their feet. She is finding herself feeling alone in life, with her best friend trying to set her up on dates. This changes when she meets a mysterious stranger, one that offers her excitement for the first time in years. She is left with a decision of whether to follow this man who keep her life on track.

Blond is the man that Kate meets, fresh out of prison. He is looking to start putting his life back in order. Using his charisma to draw Kate out of her safe position in the life. Sending her down the whirlwind she wants. He does come off as abusive and controlling, not letting her have control of her own life.

Allison is the best friend of Kate’s work colleague who has been around to support her. She is seeing the trouble she has got herself into, looking to help her out where she can.

Ruth Wilson is wonderful in the leading role. Showing her character slowly spiralling out of control, because she is feeling empty in life. Tom Burke brings the controlling figure to life, one that does everything to get what he wants only.

Story

The story follows a lonely woman that gets drawn into a relationship with one of her clients. Risking her career, changing her life, getting drawn into an abusive relationship. Unaware of the situation she finds herself in, despite her friends and family trying to help her.

This is a story that shows how easily people can get caught up in toxic relationships. The early excitement can bring something fresh to life. Constantly drawn towards that excitement, even if the rest of the time is abusive. It will also show how important having friends around you will help put life back on track for you.

Final Thoughts True Things is an uncomfortable whirlwind romance tale.
