True Category Killer Hits The Market, Fashion.com But Why Is Schilling Brokering Not Buying It?

Posted on the 14 November 2013 by Worldwide @thedomains

We get press releases about domain names for sale almost every day but this one really caught our eye.

The domain name is Fashion.com

Its a huge vertical, certainly a top 100 generic .com domain name and certainly worth into the eight figures

According to the press release the domain is being brokered jointly by DomainNameSales.com and igloo.com.

DomainNameSales of course was founded and is owned by Frank Schilling.

Frank Schilling also is the founder of Uniregistry a company which applied for over 50 new gTLD’s including .Fashion

There are a total of 4 applicants for .Fashion, a new gTLD string that could fetch $5 Million or more in an ICANN auction.

Which begs the question of why Mr. Schilling is brokering the domain instead of buying the domain (or one of the other applicants for the new gTLD .Fashion).

Certainly the combination of owning a new gTLD string with the matching.com makes the offering that much stronger.

For example you could offer a customer the matching subdomain of Fashion.com along with a registration for the new gTLD domain on .Fashion.  So a customer could buy Shoes.Fashion.com and Shoes.Fashion.  This type of offering would also all a new gTLD applicant to overcome any objection to loss of traffic to the .com that a customer could raise on the acquisition of a a .Fashion gTLD domain.

The registry could have a separate charge for the subdomain and the new gTLD domain.

It would be a very interesting play and considering Mr. Schilling involvement in both the new gTLD space and as one of the top domain investors in the world, it would seem he should be buying not brokering Fashion.com
