Stephen is interviewed below by The Daily Record about True Blood, The Caller and all the work he does during True Blood’s hiatus. It seems he works harder while on the break than when filming the show and it’s hard for he and Anna to be together. Read the interview by Brian Mciver below.
Many modern couples are kept apart by their jobs – long hours, business travel and endless back-to-back shifts mean it’s not uncommon for family life to be reduced to passing ships in the night and text-message romance.
But few relationships will ever be as distant, and as geographically difficult as that of True Blood lovers Stephen Moyer and Anna Paquin, who spend at least half of the year apart chasing movie work all over the world.
In fact, according to the charming Mr Moyer, the only time that he and his Kiwi-born wife actually get to spend any quality time together, is when they are on the True Blood set watching the other one in an undead sex scene with a co-star. And often while covered in sticky fake blood.
The Essex-born actor, who has become an international pin-up as southern gentleman vampire Bill Compton, is excited that he’s finally about to return to his day job on the HBO show after another busy, globe-trotting summer and autumn.
After years earning his spurs in bit-part telly dramas like Midsomer Murders, the friendly Englishman is enjoying being one of the most in-demand actors in the world. And he’s determined to enjoy every bit of the experience.
One of those jobs is fantastic new thriller movie, The Caller, by Scottish screenwriter Sergio Casci, which has just been released on DVD.
Meanwhile his wife Paquin, who is famed for her Oscar-winning work in The Piano as a youngster, and a sexy turn in the X-Men movies, is just as busy.
The pair are excited that they will be back together again when they start work on season five of True Blood, which is now rivalling The Sopranos for ratings and popularity.
Even if that reunion might involve watching a naked Swedish man sucking blood from various parts of his wife’s body.
“During our break from True Blood, or hiatus as they call it out here, we are always really busy because we have a lot of work on and it always seems to cross over,” he said.
“We try to plan holidays and time together, but there’s always a gig coming up and it’s just the way of the world and the nature of the job that the only chance we get to spend a lot of time together is on True Blood.
“We’re not the kind of couple that gets to spend a lot of time together on the sofa,” he added.
“Right now she is in New Zealand working. I’m in Toronto making a horror movie about the Jersey Devil, and then as soon as that finishes we are working on a film together.
“But as is our luck, she is acting in the film (family drama Free Ride), which is shot in Miami, while I am producing it from our base in LA. So even then we won’t get any time together .”
But Stephen said, despite the gore and raunchy scenes the vampire drama is famous for, it’s actually a great place to relax and be a normal couple.
And whatever their secret is, whether it’s the long hours or the insane storylines they share, the actor says True Blood has been very good for the supernatural sweethearts.
“Of course couples can have their moments, but in four-and-a-half years I can think of two moments we have had.
“And that’s usually over things like not loading the dishwasher, which I am not very good at. It does sound a bit sickening and not interesting for other people, but we do get on really, really well.
“We work well together and the connection we have makes even the smallest material fun to try. We push each other to make it as interesting as possible.
“And for the sex scenes, we both have to do it, so it’s not like one of us gets to be jealous while the other one gets all the fun.
