Well things aren’t looking very good for the vampires of Louisiana right now. All of our favorite vampires are locked up in some weird internment camp, except Eric and Bill who are apparently are going to walk on in anyway. But not all the vampires are sad to be there. Jessica, played by the fantastic Deborah Ann Woll, feels she should be there after draining three of Andy‘s fairy daughters and has pretty much given up all hope. Well, last minute vampire sex aside, she’s given up. Woll spoke to TV Guide recently about Jessica’s regret, whether she will save poor Jason, and what we can expect next.
First up, Woll talked a bit about how Jessica is feeling being in the camp. Remember she was there when Bill had the vision of the deaths so she knows the odds are very good that she’s going to die there and she’s kind of okay with that.
She’s suffered from self-hate and self-doubt all along, so this is just a confirmation of all those fears; those fears that she is a monster because of these dark urges that she has. She thinks she’s going to die, that’s what Bill foresaw. She understands that’s what’s going to happen. She’ll save as many of her friends as she can, but I don’t think she feels like she has to work too hard for herself because it’s not as bad if she doesn’t exist. That’s a pretty dark place for her to be.
This horrible self image is partly what has drawn Jessica to James (Luke Grimes), a fellow vampire that seems to be holding onto his humanity better than most. Woll reveals that James will help Jessica learn to fight her darker urges and bring her back from the low place she has been. However poor Jason, who joined the crazy vampire camp to save Jessica, may not be so lucky. Sarah Newlin has cut him and put him in with the general female population and while we know Tara will fight to the death for Jason, how is Jessica going to repay his kindness?
First she has to find out he’s in trouble, which is coming up. For Jessica, Jason following her in there is a beautiful gesture that he’s made, but now he’s put himself in danger. The last thing she wants, knowing in her mind that she’s going to die and there’s nothing that anybody can do about it, she certainly doesn’t want him to die with her. She cares deeply for him and feels like she’s hurt him more than he ever deserved to be. That scene of her letting him go was like, “I’m not worth it. Get out of here.” We’ll see if they’re able to come out of this.
Now that Willa has let Pam, Jessica and Tara know that they cannot drink the tainted blood, they unfortunately have to sit by and watch a lot of the other vampires die. Woll says that if the authorities figure out that the vampires know, they will just find another way to feed it to them so being quiet is the only way to go.
