The East

True Blood‘s Alexander Skarsgard (Eric Northman) keeps busy during his hiatus from filming the hit HBO show and has several projects set to be released this year.  His film ‘The East’, will premiere January 20, 2013 at the Sundance Film Festival and it has been confirmed that Skarsgard will be attending.  The film, which co-stars Ellen Page, Brit Marling and Patricia Clarkson, is a thriller with an espionage and eco-terrorist twist:

Someone is attacking big corporate CEOs and forcing them to consume harmful products they manufacture. An elite private intelligence firm is called into action and contracts ex-FBI agent Sarah Moss to infiltrate a mysterious anarchist collective, The East, suspected to be responsible. Skilled, focused, and bent on success, Sarah goes undercover and dedicates herself to taking down the organization. She soon finds, however, that the closer she gets to the action, the more she sympathizes with the group’s charismatic leaders.

Skarsgard plays Benji, the sort of leader of the group, who Sarah (Marling) becomes involved with.  According to him:

Benji believes in eye for an eye.  He attacks.

According to a USA Today article the group lives deep in the woods and targets groups like pharmaceutical companies and companies that are polluting communities.  As they become more violent, Sarah begins to question her decisions.  Skarsgard assures us that the movie is not about shoving morality down our throats saying:

It’s not preachy. It’s complicated. The way life is and reality is.

The East premieres on January 20th at 3:30pm but will also be playing at other times throughout the festival.  Click here to see all of the show times.  No official release date for the movie has been set but we will have it for you once it is announced.
