Trespassers by @mcfall_claire

By Pamelascott

Tristan and Dylan have escaped the afterlife. But fate never meant for them to live. Dylan should have been killed in a horrific train crash. Tristan should still be a Ferryman, an immortal. Now, living in bodies they have no right to inhabit, they discover they're connected by something stronger than love. Their souls are bound together. Alone, they'll die. When they broke through the boundary between the worlds of the living and the dead they defied the laws of the supernatural world, and showed the way for others to escape. Now they must face the consequences. Can true love transcend destiny? Trespassers continues the epic love story of Dylan and Tristan, in the stunning sequel to the truly original, award-winning debut novel Ferryman. This is a love story like no other, beautifully told, richly imagined and with a narrative as full of suspense and action as it is with intense emotion.

I loved this book almost as much as Ferryman and perhaps a little bit more. Unlike the first book, this is set firmly in the real world. Dylan has passed back into her own body and is alive again and Tristan, despite never being a human in the first place is a flesh and blood teenage boy. All good so far. They discover they can't be very physically far apart without experiencing pain. So they need to sweet talk Dylan's parents into letting this strange boy live with them and somehow enrol him in Dylan's school. While they are struggling to adjust to life in school pretending to be cousins while Dylan recovers from her horrific injuries which are healing way too fast there is a price waiting to be paid. A hole was punched between the real world and the wasteland when they came back and the wasteland's wraiths are wandering the streets, killing people. The Inquisitor tracks Tristan down and tells them they can have their life together if they close the hole they made and kill the wraiths. Simple, right? They discover another Ferryman has followed Tristan to the real world with her soul, an angry thug who died after being stabbed to death in an alley. Not the kind of person you want to be connected to forever. Oh, and they made another hole for wraiths to come through. Nice one! This is an incredible book. I can't wait to read the conclusion, Outcasts.
