Treefollowing - October 2024

By Ozhene @papaver

There has been rain and sun but mainly rain but apart from the odd night it has not really hit chilly; but it is only a matter of time.

Treefollowing - October 2024

It already feels like each moment of blue sky is to be treasured. The Quince Brothers clearly agree as they reach out towards the sun against a near perfect blue sky. I can just see the deepening of the red of the leaf stems and the reddening veins in their leaves. Autumn is here, leaf-drop is coming, but not yet, not yet.

In between the dark and gloom of the rains; the sun has not lost all of its warmth. It seems like we are in the phoney-Autumn so far. Autumn in name, Autumn in terms of the days getting increasingly shorter; yet not quite Autumn enough. On the warmer days it is not a Summer's day either. It is like a late or indeed an early Summer's day: still full of promise, still full of hope. Everything is still growing: the Quince Brothers are watching the lawn, watching the roses and saying to each other "they're not giving up yet so neither are we." I love their bravado, I love their joie de vivre. Of course they know the clock is ticking and that every day is day closer to that moment when like Cinderella after she pricks her finger, they fall into a deep deep sleep.

Soon the Quince Brothers will start to prepare for Winter. Not yet though, not yet.
