Tree Following February 2023

By Ozhene @papaver

One of the delights of growing quince trees is that they start to wake up earlier than many of the other trees in my garden.

Quince Major is a lighter sleeper than Quince Minor,

but both of them are stirring themselves into up to something and this feels both good and a little fraught at the same time. As I write this the night temperatures are going down to -5 again, we even have a vague threat of snow next week (this threat is getting weaker by the forecast and might just be cold mizzle by now); but the point is we are still in the frost/snow zone and will be for some weeks yet. I delight in seeing the early movement and I hold to the hope that the emerging blossom buds will not be damaged. To lose all hope of quinces this early in the year would be a disappointment.

Stay strong dear Quince Brothers, this could be the year you have both been waiting for. This could be the year where you truly compete against each other for who can have the most goodly harvest. A friendly competion please though lads, I don't want any covert squirrel directing....

Important note for email subscribers. I am cancelling the email service I use as they are imposing charges that I just cannot afford for a blog that (deliberately) brings in no income. Whilst I think of what I do next please can you follow through the Facebook page below, instagram or twitter or Bloglovin (link in side bar). Sorry for any inconvenience, but this is the last of the blogs you will receive by email. This only affects email subscribers.

Take care and be kind.
