Officers of the Mangalagama Police in Ampara arrested eight suspects including a police constable while they were traveling in two three-wheelers for treasure hunting, at a police road block in the 27th mile post area on Monday (26) early morning.
Police officers found a scanner, equipment used for mining and several other things used for treasure hunting in the three-wheelers.
The arrested police officer is attached to the Police Sports Division and is working in the Police Field Force Headquarters in Bambalapitiya.
The suspects are residents of Mahiyanganaya, Polonnaruwa, Welimada and Hali-Ela areas.
They have been remanded till December 28 after being produced before the Ampara Magistrate’s Court.
