TRAVEL: London Eye – London, England

By Jsleigh14 @jsleigh14

And in the blink of the eye…the London 2012 Olympics have come to an end. Props to them for bringing back the Spice Girls in their closing ceremony; it was such a way to tug on the heartstrings of us 90′s kids. Today’s travel post is going to be about the London Eye, where my most memorable time in London took place. The London Eye is a a giant ferris wheel that has rested in the heart of England’s finest city since the new millennium. This Ferris wheel provides the highest public viewing point in all of London, which is why it is the most popular paid tourist attractions in all of the city. Although this ride has a pricey admission, it’s worth every pound because it provides an experience of London like no other.

I was lucky on the day that I visited the London Eye in that the weather was very accommodating. As I am told, this can be hard to come across in the UK. The London Eye carries its passengers in big glass capsules that can fit about 25 people in each one. These capsules are great because they allow tourists to get a good 360 degree view from above. Each capsule is air-conditioned, which makes the entire experience very pleasant and comfortable.

It’s amazing to ascend over the Thames River and see all of London’s finest underneath your feet. My appreciation for London grew more and more as I got higher and higher on this ride. Unfortunately, it’s hard to take fantastic pictures from above since the glass all over causes a reflection. But the sight itself is enough!

If you’re ever out and about in London, the London Eye is really something not to be missed. This attraction gives you a whole different perspective on the city and what it encompasses. Do expect a bit of a longer line up though, especially around the hours of sunset when views are most spectacular. But other than the line (or the “queue”) to get in, there’s really nothing about the London Eye that’s not to love.
