Friends! I'm so excited to be sharing our stay in Positano! It's slowly becoming one of the most incredible places I've visited because it's truly magical. Misty hills dotted with colorful villas on such a lush foliage frame and you can't miss the iconic duomo! Positano offers many accommodations, food and various resorts worn by visitors all over the world and I can't wait to share with you a few highlights. Be warned for more posts to come as well as a million pictures!
How To Get To Positano.
So there are a few ways to get to this gorgeous location; by land or water. My family and I flew from Chicago to and had a connecting flight in Zurrich overnight. From there we arrived in Naples and took a car service to Positano ( about 14 euros and took roughly an hour and a half to get there ). You could also fly into Rome and take a taxi from the train station which is about 30 minutes away and then a ferry to Positano. This does make for a super long day so my opinion would be to fly into Napes and have a car service so you don't have to worry about attempting to pass traffic and oncoming bikes that literally turn inches away from you! We also adored our driver who shared a bit of history and where he grew up on our way to town.
Where To Eat :
We enjoyed a variety of places to eat breakfast, lunch and dinner during our stay in Positano! Some of the ones I highly recommend include:
Ristorante Max - We went here for dinner one night and it was fabulous! Normally we enjoyed looking at the incredible views of Positano but this particular restaurant offers a unique atmosphere because it's an art gallery museum! Surrounded by various paintings of Positano both in the present and past, Max has delicate dishes that are almost too good to eat! This place came highly recommended by many of you so I was extremely excited to try it out!
La Tagliata - This was recommended to us when my girlfriend visited Positano a few months prior of when we were going and said this was such an incredible place not only to eat but enjoy the environment. It overlooks the entire town of Positano on the cliff and to say this picture doesn't do it justice is so true. Not only that, but all the food is changed every day and family style so you can enjoy and take as much as you'd like. Reservations are only made online as they also provide transportation ( you'll want it because it's an extremely long walk up! ) and can only allow a certain number of people in their family run restaurant.
Gelato - If you have a soft spot for anything involving ice cream, gelato has to be the number one thing to enjoy after dinner. There were several areas that we were able to pick up this sweet but thisspot was our favorite.
Where to Stay:
My family and I decided to stay in a rental home because there were six of us and we all wanted to be together. Our villa was called the Villa Roberta and it could not have been more inviting, cozy and enjoyable to stay for 6 days. It had a kitchen, family room, 4 bedrooms and the most incredible balcony views. One perk was that we were in the middle of where Positano is located so although there were several stairs to climb, it was easier to get to our villa than attempting to climb from the bottom to the top. Your calves will really start to burn!
There of course are amazing hotels as well if you're interested. There are seriously dozens of hotels in Positano, all unique and different as well as beautiful. If you're choosing a hotel, I would say the most important thing to keep in mind is location. If you've seen the photos, Positano is built on the side of a mountain so some hotels are located at the very top of the hill ( hello butt work out for stairs and walking ) and some are located at the bottom. Some are a bit more pricier than others, most of them all include breakfast each morning.
Le Sirenuse- If you're into history and love literature, John Steinbeck actually stayed here in 1953. It's sophisticated and filled with gorgeous antiques and pictures. There are 59 bedrooms and stunning tiled floors with vaulted ceilings. Of course, the pool terrace has one of the best bay views in the area as well.
Hotel Posiden- Although rather pricey, this hotel is simply stunning. I walked in briefly while walking into the main area and it's in a prime spot for shopping and adorable cafes near by. The rooms have plenty of storage and a pool which is perfect to cool off in when it becomes extremely warm in the afternoon.
Personally I say, be comfortable! I love wearing flowing maxi dresses to dinner, comfortable wedges or sandals and of course hats to cover your face! It was extremely warm during our week there ( in the mid 80's all day ) so I had a few layers to help take on and off while we walked around and then popped into restaurants or shops where it was cooler.
I hope this helps on planning a trip and if you're there for a few days or a few hours, you'll love everything you see, do and eat! Truly, you can't go wrong with anything in Positano!
