We were then shown to the Alpine Lounge for a leisurely check-in – a drink by the fireplace with incredible mountain views! Within minutes, I knew I would love my stay here and never want to leave. I spent more time in the Alpine Lounge than I have perhaps in any other hotel. It may have been the live piano music, or the fireplace, or the elegant setting or the floor to ceiling mountain views…it’s hard to say!
Travel Charme Ifen Htel is a 5 star holiday experience. It offers holistic relaxation with their PURIA Premium Spa, a choice of ski resorts, with one less than a 5-minute walk away and more than ample snowshoeing or hiking trails! These are my favorite kind of places – where I can do a hard hike, then relax and unwind in an outdoor jacuzzi with mountain views or with a massage! These type of weekends getaways (the Kleinwasteral is just 180km from Munich), are exactly what I need every now and again to relax and revitalize.
As we headed up to our room, my expectations were high! Fortunately our Junior Suite was spacious and I mean spacious! There were double sinks in the bathroom – something I don’t even have in my own home! A huge walk-in closet, a seating area and a King size bed. The room was covered in light wood which created a soothing, relaxing atmosphere.

Dinner at Theo’s the hotel’s restaurant was exceptional regional cuisine, consisting of a combination of buffet and served courses. It would be up to standard for even the pickiest gourmet! But what perhaps impressed me the most, was the gluten-free bread already waiting for me on the table – without me even having to ask! They’re also able to make any of the served courses gluten-free and were outstanding about accommodating my gluten allergy. And the cheese! I thought I’d died and gone to cheese heaven!
Kleinwasteral itself is a unique place. It has over 300 days of sunshine each year, which living in Munich where it’s often overcast, is enough of an incentive for me to go! But, what makes it really unique is that it’s a valley in the northeast state of Vorarlberg, Austria that can only be reached by road via Oberstdorf, Germany due to the rugged mountains that surround it. If you want to reach the rest of Austria from Kleinwalsertal you have do it on foot!
