Mobile Calling New Rule: Telecom regulator (TRAI) is implementing new rules for incoming calls and SMS from 1st May. In the new rule of TRAI, an AI (Artificial Intelligence) filter is being arranged, after which users will be put to rest on fake calls and messages coming from banking and other marketing companies. What is the new rule?
TRAI has issued orders to telecom companies, asking them to install artificial intelligence spam filters for phone calls and messages from May 1. This AI filter will block users from receiving fake calls and messages from unknown numbers. At present, Airtel has started applying this AI filter for its users, while Jio will apply this filter for its users in the coming few months.
In the past also, TRAI has issued instructions to telecom companies for such arrangements several times. According to the reports that came in the past, this rule is coming into force from 1 May 2023. Telemarketers have to take special numbers from telecom companies to make marketing calls and SMS. For this, the company has to register the number as well as the template. This AI filter will block calls and SMS from unregistered numbers.

TRAI has been working on the Caller ID feature for a long time to prevent fake calls and messages. This feature will allow users to block promotional calls from 10 digit mobile numbers. This caller ID feature of TRAI will display the photo and name of the caller in the incoming call on the phone.
All the three private telecom companies Airtel, Vi and Jio are talking to Truecaller for this caller ID feature. These companies were avoiding bringing this feature due to violation of user privacy. However, now after the order of TRAI, these companies have agreed to work on this feature.
