A quite unbelievably candid (and bleak) interview given to BBC News by independent trader Alessio Rastani about the health of the global economy has shocked and scared those who fear the world is headed for another recession.

In the apocalypic interview, Rastani warned people to “get prepared” and to “protect their assets” because “the savings of millions are people” are going to vanish within a year. Rastani insisted that the big (hedge) funds “know the (financial) markets are toast … the stock markets are finished.” Rastani said Goldman Sachs “doesn’t care” about the eurozone bailout package and this is relevant because “governments don’t rule the world, Goldman Sachs rules the world.”

Perhaps the most shocking element of Rastani’s explosive interview was his insistence that there are many traders out there who are actually looking forward to another economic collapse. “I have a confession. I go to bed every night dreaming of another recession,” said Rastani.
