Top Ten Tuesday: What Books Do I Want?

By Curlygeek04 @curlygeek04

toptentuesdayThis week’s Top Ten Tuesday, hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, is favorite new-to-me authors I read in 2014.  This post is also “co-hosted” by Estella’s Revenge A Month of Favorites.

This week’s Top Ten is Books I Want for Christmas, but I’m switching it up a little. While there are plenty of books I want to read, what I really want to know is what YOU recommend I read. As I’m reading all the lists of best novels in 2014, I’m feeling at a loss. For whatever reason, I read very little in 2014 that actually came out in 2014 (at least nothing literary).

I’ve seen a lot of best-of-2014 lists and this year it seems there’s no overwhelming winners — which leaves me with a lot of choices and no time to read them all.

Here are some links to best-of-2014 lists. What do you agree with? What am I missing?

I know I want to read The Bone Clocks by David Mitchell and Colorless Tsukuru by Haruki Murakami and Us by David Nicholls. After that? Well, here are some of the books I’m wondering about:

  •  All the Light We Cannot See – Anthony Doerr
  • The Blazing World – Siri Hustvedt
  • The Book of Strange New Things – Michael Faber
  • The Book of Unknown Americans – Cristina Henriquez
  • Boy, Snow, Bird – Helen Oyeyemi
  • Euphoria – Lily King
  • Everything I Never Told You – Celeste Ng
  • Lila – Marilynne Robinson
  • The Narrow Road to the Deep North – Richard Flanagan
  • Nora Webster – Colm Toibin
  • On Such a Full Sea – Chang-Rae Lee
  • The Paying Guests – Sarah Waters
  • Some Luck – Jane Smiley
  • The Empathy Exams – Leslie Jamison
  • The Vacationers – Emma Straub
  • We are All Completely Beside Ourselves – Karen Fowler
  • We Are Not Ourselves – Matthew Thomas
  • Yes Please – Amy Poehler

What do you recommend? What should I read? Or are you also feeling like you didn’t read any of this year’s best-ofs?

Merry Christmas everyone!  Have a happy and healthy holiday, and I hope you get some of the books on YOUR list!
