Top Ten Tuesday – Set At School

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme created over at Broke and the Bookish, but has now been taken over by That Artsy Reader Girl where every Tuesday, Top Ten things of anything are listed. Todays Top Ten things are:

Top Ten Books Set At School

I found this list a bit hard to decide what direction to go in. Its been a moment since I was at school and I wanted to try and think of an interesting way to take the topic and was coming up blank. So I decided I was over thinking the topic and thought just being at school can be complicated enough, so why don’t I just focus on books that deal with the issue of just dealing being in that environment.

1. To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before series by Jenny Han. I just recently finished this series and it was everything I never knew I needed. I also think that it deals really well with how the topics in the books would happen for someone in school.

2. Simon Vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli. I am very happy putting this book at number 2 as I can totally see everything that happens in this book being actual things that people in high school have to deal with.

3. On the Jellicoe Road By Melina Marchetta. Really it takes place at a school, did you guys really think it wasn’t going to make the list? The situations are not really going to be something people will face though.

4. Emmy & Oliver by Robin Benway. Yes this deals with things more complicated than just being at school, but its still set there and I loved it so it goes on the list.

5. The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton. Yes the events are extreme, but in some lower economical situations or bad neighbourhoods, these can be challenges that kids will have to deal with.

6. Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher. This section of the list seems to be a bit depressing, and while the tapes are not something thats really going to happen but the topics faced in the book are real possibilities.

7.Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson. Again depressing, but it is dealing with those depressing things in the school setting which isn’t always the easiest place for people without that huge topic looming over their heads.

8. The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky. I couldn’t really make this list without this book on it.

9. Vampire Academy Series by Richelle Mead. This is in no way going to come up in normal everyday life, but it takes place in a school so its going on the list.
