The topic of this week’s Top Ten Tuesday (hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl) is a freebie — so a topic I’ve been thinking about lately is books I’d really like to re-read. I rarely re-read books, because there’s so much I want to read. But that’s unfortunate, as it’s always nice to re-experience an old favorite and see how it’s changed. Next year I’d like to challenge myself to re-read a bit more. So here are some books I’d really like to re-read.
David Copperfield by Charles Dickens: Reading Demon Copperhead and The Unikely Escape of Uriah Heep has definitely made me want to reread this favorite classic.
Tales of the City series by Armistead Maupin: One of my favorite comfort reads. I love the characters, even the ones that aren’t so loveable, and revisiting Barbary Lane would be nice.
Animal Dreams by Barbara Kingsolver: This was one of my earliest and favorite Kingsolver reads. Most people haven’t heard of this one, but I’ve never forgotten this story about two sisters.
Wool by Hugh Howey: We just watched Silo and loved it. I read the whole series years ago and this seems like the perfect time to go back to it.
The Secret History by Donna Tartt: This book is so imprinted on my brain, I wonder how well it holds up. I feel like tons of campus thrillers have tried to emulate it but none have succeeded. Sadly, I haven’t liked any of Tartt’s other works nearly as well.
Harry Potter series by J. K. Rowling: While I feel less love for Rowling than I did, I still love going back to the books and the movies.
Persuasion by Jane Austen: I’d like to reread this one because it’s a favorite Austen for so many readers. I’ve always loved Emma, but I’d like to give this one more consideration.
Beloved by Toni Morrison: One of my challenges is to read a banned book. I read Beloved in college but I think this would be a fantastic book to experience now that I’m older.
The Catcher in the Rye by J. D. Salinger: I loved this book in college but I keep hearing that it doesn’t hold up very well. I’ve included on this list because I’m curious if that’s the case.
Firekeeper’s Daughter by Angeline Boulley: I read this pretty recently, but having just finished Warrior Girl Unearthed, now I want to read Firekeeper all over again.
Some of my favorite re-reads have been The Return of the Native, The Bell Jar, Fahrenheit 451, 1984, Heidi and A Wrinkle in Time. What books have you gone back to more than once? Do you re-read a lot or very little?
