Top Ten Tuesday: Authors I Haven’t Read Yet But Want To

By Curlygeek04 @curlygeek04

This week’s Top Ten Tuesday topic (hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl) is about authors I haven’t read yet but want to.

In fiction, here are some of the authors on my TBR list:

  • Amor Towles: Rules of Civility, A Gentleman in Moscow, The Lincoln Highway – I keep hearing great things about these books.
  • Peter Heller: The River is a frequent recommendation of Modern Mrs. Darcy.
  • Evelyn Waugh: Brideshead Revisited has been on my TBR a long time.
  • Anne Enright: The Gathering, Actress. She’s won or been nominated for a number of awards, including the Man Booker Prize and the Women’s Prize longlist.

There are several science fiction and fantasy authors I keep meaning to read.  These authors are always on a lot of favorites lists:

  • Laini Taylor: Strange the Dreamer and The Daughter of Smoke and Bone
  • Sarah J. Maas: A Court of Thorn and Roses, The Throne of Glass, and Crescent City series
  • Matt Ruff: Lovecraft Country. I didn’t stick with the television series but I’d like to read it.
  • Adrian Tchaikovsky: Children of Time is a favorite of Mr. CG.

In nonfiction, here are some authors I’ve heard great things about:

  • Emma Dabiri: Dabiri writes about race; her books include Don’t Touch My Hair, What White People Can Do Next, and Twisted: The Tangled History of Black Hair Culture.  As someone who thinks about hair and what it means, I’m intrigued.
  • Oliver Sacks: Sacks is a British neurologist who writes about his patients; his books include Awakenings, The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat, and Anthropologist on Mars
  • Temple Grandin: I’ve long been intrigued by the great work of Temple Grandin and her advocacy for those on the autism spectrum. Her books include Thinking in Pictures, Animals in Translation, and The Autistic Brain.
  • Gabrielle Union: An actress, activist, and author, I’ve heard great things about her books We’re Going to Need More Wine and You Got Any More?

Those are 12 authors I still need to read. If you’ve read any of these authors, where would you suggest I start?
