In this day and age, it seems like no matter what is going on in your life, there is an app for it. Yeah I sound like a commercial, but these five apps are just some of the many apps out there that make a dad keep his sanity.
There are ones that are going to be useful around the house, there are ones that actually work in your everyday life, and there are ones that are just plain fun to have. Take a look and I’m sure you will have many more that you think are important, but these are a few that better be on every dad’s iPhone sooner rather than later:
Home Depot
Even if you don’t plan to be the handyman around the house on a daily basis, this app is great to have because it is very easy to use. You can browse for the closest store near you and can get great deals by shopping right from your smart phone. It doesn’t have to be a big purchase, but if you need anything you can go straight to the phone and order it. You have your own account to keep track of what you have ordered and you also can find out quick tips and workshops to help your projects around the house. And if you aren’t the handiest with the tools, at least when your buddies are talking about it, you can chime in and say you have the app at least, too!
iHandy Level App
This is an app that you wouldn’t think you need until you actually start hanging all of those family pictures, you know the ones that have been in frames forever that your wife has asked you to hang a million times. This comes in handy (no pun intended) because it shows up on your screen and it works perfectly. You can use it for anything outdoors, or you can use it to adjust your shelves or mirrors throughout the house.
Mint.com Finance App
I don’t care if you are a father of one or a father of 10, you definitely need to keep your finances and budget in line, especially if you have kids that like to spend money! This iPhone budgeting app is a perfect way to keep track of all of the money that you are saving (or not saving). It was voted by TIME Magazine as the Best Finance App, and it is so easy to plug in your finances and manage them. If I can easily use it, then believe me you can too. It won’t cost you a dime, and it is the best budgeting software around.
My Radar App
I first downloaded this app when I started golfing because I wanted to see if there was a chance that I was going to get rained out. And now I use it literally every single day for pretty much everything. It isn’t a bells and whistle type of app, but it is easy to use that displays animated weather radar that shows you what the weather is like that is headed your way. You can easily switch locations by zooming in and out, and you can get the push notifications to warn you of bad weather coming toward you. It is pretty damn accurate too and it does the job, because it also serves as a temperature radar that shows the five day forecast. Dads will need this not only for their golf days, but to see if the kids’ ballgames are going to be rained out or not.
NBC Sports Talk
This is a great app for the sports enthusiast because not only does it have name recognition with NBC attached to it, but it is great for up-to-the-minute updates on pretty much any of the major sports out there. There is news and rumors on NFL, NHL, MLB, NBA, college basketball, college football, Notre Dame (go figure on an NBC app), golf, soccer, Olympics and motorsports. It is easy to access the different sports and it is constantly updated. There is a running log on the top of the app to keep you posted on updated scores from around the sports world and it allows you to even organize your sports feed. This is a must-have for the sports dad.
