Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin’s 63 percent first-round win on Sunday will see the PM retake the presidency, having held the position from 2000-2008. But not everyone in Russia is convinced Putin won the vote fair and square. Thousands of protestors have taken to the streets of Moscow to question the legitimacy of Putin’s triumph. According to international election monitors, the presidential vote was better-managed than the disputed 2011 Russian parliamentary elections, but “was still unfair and heavily skewed to favour Putin,” reported Reuters.

While Putin’s win undoubtedly has serious ramifications for Russia and the West, Buzzfeed has provided its own characteristically leftfield (and humorous) explanation for strongman Putin’s enduring appeal to the Russian electorate. It’s “27 Reasons Why Vladimir Putin Definitely Won The Russian Presidential Election” has gone viral. The Daily Mail leapt on the concept and did their own top ten.
