At a young age you probably wouldn't think there would ever be a need for a regular skin care regimen.  What you don't know is that neglecting the largest organ of our body will do more harm than good in the long run. Yes, skin tend to be naturally supple and clear. But that's usually only until you're in your late 30s, barring skin disease and genetic predispositions. If you've been a tad bit careless about your lifestyle (think late night smoking and drinking binges) in your teens and late 20s then I guess Adam Levine and Kiera Knightley were right when they lamented: "Youth is wasted on the young." Don't you think it'd be awesome to enjoy your beautiful, glowing skin much longer? If you're under 35 years old (or that magic number between youth and ...adulthood), you're years away from wrinkles, sagging skin, paleness, thin appearance, age spots and dryness. Look like you're 25 even when you're really past 30, with these 5 tips:

1. Be generous with the sunblock.

Sure, us Filipinos are lucky enough to have more pigment, allowing us to safely spend a little bit more time under the sun's harmful rays. But our skin can only take so much, so it would be best to be kind to our skin and use sunblock as often as we could. Protip: Look for products that contain actual physical sunblock, titanium dioxide and zinc oxide. Physical sunblock is less likely to react to other chemicals on our skin.

2. Remember to hydrate, hydrate, hydrate!

During summer, the minimum 8 glasses of water a day just won't cut it. We tend to sweat more, lose more fluids during summer, so aim for more than 8 glasses a day, and your body will reward you with a beautiful glow all summer.

3. Enjoy your fruits for their antioxidants.

Too much sugar, even in the form of fructose (sugar from fruits), can be too much for our bodies, but it doesn't mean you should stick to vegetables all the time! Snack on fruits rich in antioxidants such as apples and oranges as often as you can, and don't forget to eat apples with the peel on!

4. Use skin care products meant for your skin type.

Why else are there products labeled "Normal", "Dry", "Combination", or "Oily"? Products meant for dry, mature skin will most likely contain skin moisturizing ingredients that normal skin won't need. So instead of irritating your skin by using skin care products that are not designed to work well with your skin type, I suggest you find your type before buying any skin care product.

5. Don't be afraid of the doctor.

It is always best to consult a dermatologist you can trust with your skin woes. Be open, share your thoughts about issues, whether it be your unrelenting adult acne or your chin warts. But remember: While doctors are specially trained to treat patients, just like skin, no two doctors are the same. Personally I prefer consulting with someone who understands me, so I am more comfortable with female doctors.
