Top 5 Favourite Horror Sequels

By Newguy

This weekend sees the UK release of The Conjuring 2 a sequel to one of the best horror movies of recent years. We all know horror sequels can turn into something terrible but today I am going to be looking at my five favorite horror sequels and I am only including one per franchise and I don’t mean these are better than original but that they are good films.

5. Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood (1988)

friday 13th

Part 7 of this series comes off the back of the awful number 5 with just a man in a mask and the beginning of the stronger Jason we met in 6. This follows Jason going up against a teenage girl with telekinetic powers which adds something to the dying franchise as we follow the battle between the two that opened the door to having a versus film in horror.

4. Curse of Chucky (2013)

curse

Here we have another late sequel with the number 6 in the Chucky series that followed what could be the worst of the series in Seed of Chucky. This film brings in fresh characters that do have a fresh connection to Chucky but most importantly we get the film returning to the more horror base in which it was created dumping the comedy side. We also get one of the best end credits scenes in all of horror fandom history.

3. Dead Snow 2: Red vs. Dead (2014)

dead snow

Dead Snow is one of the best horror comedies in recent years but how can you continue this well you bring in the Americans and have this becoming a massive battle going on across the Norway. We have funnier moments, funnier kills and much more blood.

2. Dawn of the Dead (1978)

This sequel is one of the most popular in what could be considered one of the most perfect horror trilogies of all time with Night before and Day after. We get a look at the commercialism that hit America, amazing special effects with some of the most iconic zombie kills in film history.

1.   New Nightmare (1994)

new

New Nightmare from the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise which you could easily argue that Dream Warriors is the best sequel I have gone with this one. For me this film takes horror into a new dimension which has never been tried before as we have Freddy trying to kill the actors from the film and enter into the real world. For me this is one of the most underrated of all of the sequels on this list too.
