Colin Firth is one of England best actresses of the current generation, he has one Oscar win to his name and while he roles have improved with his age. He did start out with a lot of romantic comedies that really didn’t appeal to me but his later work has made me take note of him as well as the critics loving his new films over his old. Today I will pick my favorite five films of his career.
5. Ron Lax – The Devil’s Knot (2013)
Ron is the reporter looking into the case of three murdered children in one of the most amazing stories of wrongful imprisonment in American history. Sure the film doesn’t give the best story but Colin gives a great performance.
4. Bill Haydon – Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (2013)
This mega cast spy film had the best and brightest of British talent and Colin is right in the middle of it.
3. Jamie – Love Actually (2003)
Jamie is the unlucky guy who finds out his girlfriend has been cheating on him, so he ends up going away and ending up in a love story lost in translation.
2. King George VI – The King’s Speech (2010)
When George became King he has a crippling speech impediment and thanks to the unorthodox teacher he learns to give the speeches his country needs him to make during World War II. This role did win Colin his Oscar and could easily be his best performance of his career.
1. Harry Hart – Kingsman (2015)
Harry is one of the Kingsman who has to pick a replacement for a fallen brother while trying to stop a criminal mastermind who wants world domination. The church scene will leave any of his fans will shocked at what happens to him is even more shocking. I have picked this as number one because it is so much outside the comfort zone and I love seeing actors move away from their comfort zones.
