TONY MACARONI PLEDGE SUPPORT TO HELP DISADVANTAGED KIDS

Italian restaurant group Tony Macaroni has announced a partnership with Radio Clyde's Cash for Kids to help support the city's most vulnerable children whilst simultaneously combatting food waste.

The eatery has been fundraising for the charity, which works with disadvantaged and disabled children and young people from Glasgow and the west of Scotland, since the end of last year after introducing a new 'leftovers' donation.

Bosses at Tony Macaroni became increasingly concerned at the levels of food waste occurring and realised that whilst tackling the issue, they could also be making a real difference to the lives of local children.

Now customers can take away their leftovers box comfortable in the knowledge that their 25p donation will go straight to vulnerable children in their community.

So far, almost £4000 has been raised by customers with the initiative to continue throughout the year.

Debbie Fraser, charity manager for Radio Clyde Cash for Kids added: "Food poverty is becoming more prevalent within our communities and is particularly alarming during the school summer holidays. Holiday hunger is a real problem for families on low incomes with one in eight children not having enough to eat while they are away from the guarantee of a school meal once a day.

"Having Tony Macaroni's support is fantastic, even more so as it will not only raise money which will go directly to local vulnerable and disabled children, but it is also raising awareness of food waste which is a big problem throughout the country."

Cora Zonfrillo, Head of Sales and Marketing, Tony Macaroni added: "This is an opportunity for the Tony Macaroni group to give something back to the local community and raise awareness for the cause."

In Glasgow and the west of Scotland alone, Radio Clyde Cash for Kids, raised over £1.6 million during 2016 which helped to support over 78,000 vulnerable and disabled children.

The charity, which was formed over thirty years ago, provides vital financial support to small charities and communities groups who provide a wide range of support to children and families, including many children living in poverty.

Cash for Kids provides a wide range of grants throughout the year to:

· provide financial support towards the cost of staff who deliver the vital projects
· fund equipment or events where individual children can benefit from direct participation
· fund day trips, team building sessions and critical family interaction time
· fund a group trip or an outing or a Christmas party for children who would otherwise never have this opportunity
· fund individual Christmas presents, Christmas dinner or winter clothing and shoes

In parts of Glasgow 1 in 3 children are living in poverty and in some areas this figure is as high as 1 in 2.

Every penny donated to Radio Clyde Cash for Kids goes straight back out to support young children with every £25 raised providing a local child with a hot meal or warm clothes or a small gift.
