Today's Review: Cadbury Oreo Cake
Cadbury have been going a bit gung ho with their Oreo products lately, with some fanfare. I stumbled across this box of treats in Poundland, and having heard nothing about them previously I was a little skeptical. Upon closer inspection they're an import from Egypt, and in that respect a box of 12 cake bars for £2 is not bad. Basically, these consist of a chocolate cake with a vanilla filling, coated in Cadbury chocolate. I assume the recipe is a lot different over in Egypt, as the description on the box says the chocolate has a "cocoa butter substitute". It also describes this as "cake with fat", so that probably gives you some idea of the quality.
These are not good. The cake is dry, the filling is neither substantial nor flavoursome, and the chocolate on top doesn't really taste like chocolate. I don't know why they've slapped the Oreo name on here, there's nothing Oreo-related about this. I mean, there's barely anything Cadbury-related either. It's just a very sub-par cake bar, and not deserving of any brand name. I'd say £2 for 12 of these is pushing it a little bit. Not good.
My rating: 1/5
