To Save Or Enjoy? Thoughts on Cellaring

With Snowpaclipse2.0 looming over our heads, and the calls of “brace yourselves & stock up” are ringing out across the insta-inter-verse.

Are you a natural cellar-er? Loving to grab stuff just to hold onto it for a while? Or does it only last as long as it takes to get in the door and crack open?

Or someplace in the middle, due to space, or funds or what have you.

I most aspects I do have a tendency to horde or save stuff for just the right time.  Not so much with beer though.  Be it the lack of good cellaring spots currently, or the cash outlay to build up said collection.

Don’t get me wrong, I would love a fridge or dark pantry set up just for holding some nice or harder to find items.  Or to have a nice cave like cellar,  I mean who wouldn’t want that,  they look awesome!  Think of the dinners and parties one can hold, or make it your own private bat cave, if that is your thing.

Sure, that would definitely be considered part of it, but the other side would be, If I bought something be it a year round thing, or a seasonal I have been drooling over since it was announced months back,  I want to drink it then, or at least in the reasonable future, like that month.

Don’t get me wrong, I do have stuff saved up, for a special occasion, or for when the person who bought it for me comes over for a visit.

I feel like they should be ready to go when you buy them (like IPA’s and the such).  None of this buy it now but it is not going to be ready to drink at the level we feel it should be at for the next 6 months.

I love to have stuff on hand,  a six pack or two, or even 3,  but that’s it.  I find it to become overwhelming at that point.  What to try ? What to wait on?  Why am I still saving this one last bottle of stout?  I am past the days of parties were everyone brings a six pack & you end up with cases of stuff left over.   I only want to take as much as I need.
