RIMOWA is entering the metaverse with the help of RTFKT, a digital fashion company owned by Nike. RIMOWA has been known for advancing its inventions through partnerships between different fields for a long time. The group, which is called “artifact,” is excited about the partnership because it is its first with an LVMH brand since NIKE bought it in December. So, traditional crafts and digital art are brought together. A gamified RIMOWA x RTFKT universe, complete with its own lore and characters, gives birth to two things: a real suitcase and an NFT.
The limited-edition Original Cabin suitcases will only be made in 888 pieces, and they will go on sale on October 27, 2022. The team says that this number is often associated with good luck in the cryptoverse. The luggage item will come in both physical and digital forms. As a result of the partnership, there will be 2,222 “WorkerBot” NFTs to choose from.
RIMOWA AND RTFKT’S NEW VIRTUAL UNIVERSE
The “WorkerBots” in a space station workshop get a virus in RIMOWA and RTFKT’s brand-new virtual universe. The backstory of the world can be found on the team’s website. The world combines the legacy and skill of the luggage designers with the virtual brand’s metaverse visions.
The release will be hard because members of the online community are often asked to join a quest to get drops and items. This time, an interactive campaign asks people to work together to find a RIMOWA x RTFKT space station that has been hacked. This virtual space station muse must be turned on again so that the limited edition NFTs can be made.
After finishing the task, NFT holders will be able to use their asset to make a real bag during a special online event. WorkerBot NFT will be sold for 0.08 ETH ($107 USD), while the “Meta Artisan” Original Cabin piece will cost 2.3 ETH ($3,081 USD at the time of writing).
The original cabin baggage of “Meta Artist”
The traditional metal shell of the RTFKT x RIMOWA “Meta Artisan” Original Cabin luggage will take shape, but this time it will have pixelated patterns on it. This “Wandersmith” Anti-FUD pattern print has different images from the band. The design was inspired by the fact that a lot of the digital world, especially the metaverse, is secretive and uses fake names.
“At RIMOWA, we don’t shy away from pushing the limits,” Emelie de Vitis, CMO of RIMOWA, tells designboom that we were very excited to work with RTFKT and create something new that can exist in both the metaverse and the real world. It gives us a chance to talk to people in the Web3 community and show off German craftsmanship in a new way.
Benoit Pagotto, co-founder of RTFKT, says Working with such an iconic brand like RIMOWA and bringing them into our world has been an amazing experience. Traveling is usually restricted to real world destinations, but within the Metaverse, it’s limitless. You can explore many worlds and create unique stories, and brands can interact with their audience in completely new ways.
‘I believe that what we’re creating together with RIMOWA in term of design, storytelling, experience and minting mechanic will become a benchmark for all brands willing to take the Web3 community seriously.
‘Also, this physical luggage is amazing, paying homage to our love for cyberpunk, anonymity and our Lore Story, if you see someone with it, you’ll know it’s someone who’s a part of the future.’
