To Catch A Billionaire by Dana Stone
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
To Catch a Billionaire by Dana Stone is a 2013 J. M. publication. I was provided a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Before Erin can come to terms with her mother's death, her father dies too. This leaves the art gallery that has been in their family for years to Erin. But, at the moment Erin simply can't cope with the responsibilites and so she gives herself an alter ego named Cam.
When billionaire Tristan Forsyth waltzes into the gallery with an offer to buy the gallery he expects Cam to surrender without a fight. But, his arrogant "I will win" attitude doesn't cut much glass with Cam. She runs the gallery quite well and doesn't need "Erin" to help her. This has Tristan confused at first. Erin never seems to be around and Cam is the one running the show, so why is Erin so hell bent on keeping the gallery?
This novella is a light contemporary/ chick lit romance with a little mystery served on the side. Rich girl Erin suddenly must cope with the world all alone and in order to deal with grief and all the responsiblities, she has come up with an unusual way of coping. Tristan throws Cam a curve ball and rattles her carefully constructed ruse. To make matters even worse, Tristan and Cam seem to be attracted to one another despite their snappy back and forth banter. The secondary characters also provide a little insight into what was going on in Erin's mind and why she went to such great lengths to hide her true identity. To top it all off the gallery is robbed and vandalized and could really put Cam in the hot seat.
I read this book in about an hour. The reader is told from the beginning that Cam is Erin so that's not a spoiler. The question is does Tristan realize it's all a ruse ? What is his true motive behind wanting to buy the gallery? I felt like there was more to Tristan's interest in the gallery than he was telling. Of course you will have to read the book to find out the whole story, but Tristan's attitude in the beginning is kind of off putting. I warmed up to him slowly, but I still thought he had an agenda. As for Erin/Cam I thought maybe this girl should have sought some help dealing with the issues in her life. Maybe with Tristan's support Erin will now be able to merge these two parts of herself and become a more confident person.
Overall this one is a B- or 3.5 stars
