By Dr.jenifer Sayyed @SayyedJenifer

If you are planning on taking the Trans-Siberian Railway from Moscow to Vladivostok, you will meet many Russian people on the journey.

Also in Goa– the famous international destination in India, you will find many Russians as they love to visit it.

Russian people are very friendly and hospitable, and although there is an obvious language barrier, it is possible to communicate.

#Cultural Differences

As you would expect, there are cultural differences, as Russia was the major part of the Soviet Union and in many ways, shut off from the rest of Europe.

You will first need to look at the Trans-Siberian railway cost from Moscow to Beijing, and then plan your budget based around that.

As you can imagine, Russian people are very keen to learn about life in other parts of the world, yet, a word of warning, if you are with Russians who live very basically, then don’t overdo it by mentioning the luxuries you have that we all take for granted.

There is a genuine risk of making them feel that they are lacking in things, so always be aware of that, and don’t forget to ask about their lifestyle and culture, they are a proud people and are happy to tell you about their culture.

#Seeking Solitude

While people from the west tend to look for the company, Russian people are fine with their own company.

Due to the vastness of the nation, people have little choice to spend time alone, or with the family and they have adapted to this very well.

You might find it tough to live in a cabin on your own for 3 months, yet Russian people would take that in their stride.

#Be Careful About History

As a general rule, if you are talking to people over 50, be careful about history, as many prefer the old ways, while younger Russians are more in touch with westernization.

If you are lucky enough to be invited into a Russian home, take a small gift, which is expected.

#Make an Effort to Speak Russian

To be perfectly honest, not that many Russian’s speak English well enough to have a decent conversation, so if you start to learn the basics of their language before you start your journey, it will pay dividends.

There are lots of online resources for those who want to learn to speak Russian, and all are free! Buy a decent phrase book, which will help make communication a lot easier.

#Alcohol

The living in such a climate means that alcohol is very much a part of life, in particular, vodka, and while they might drink it like water, you should be very careful with your intake.

A Russian will not take offense if you pass a few times and trying to keep up with a Russian drinking vodka is not recommended.

Russians are partial to wine, so you could bring a bottle with you and save it for a special occasion.

#Polite and Respectful

Russian people understand the need for politeness, and they expect the same from foreigners, and if you can get past the language barrier, you will make some friends.

You will meet a good cross section of ordinary Russian people while on the Trans-Siberian railway, and armed with the above information, you should have a great time getting to know the locals.
