By Marialiberati

You’ve thought about it for a long time and came to a conclusion – the time is now to open up your dream restaurant. It’s a scary thought that requires a lot of work. But with passion and dedication, it can be done.

With these few tips to help you along your way, you’ll be more confident for when the day comestoopen the door.

Ask Yourself the Hard Question

Before you begin the preparation, ask yourself one big question. Do you love working in a restaurant so much to give your life to it?

That is what will happen at the start. To get the ball rolling, you’ll be dedicating almost all your time and resources to your new restaurant. So be prepared and make sure you honestly can answer yes to the question.

Be Confident in Business Plan

If you have decided to open up a restaurant, this would have been an idea you’ve been thinking about for a while. But make sure it isn’t all in your head.

Write out a solid business plan that is detailed down to the color of carpet in the dining room. You need to know how to market your business, how you will train staff, how much money is required and a backup plan in case times are tight at the start. All of this will make more sense once you’ve written it out.

What Your Team Will Look Like

You need to decide on who you want to represent your business. Your servers, bartenders, managers and hosts are the face of your restaurant. They are who the customers see from the moment they walk in the door. So decide what your team will look like

Determine each part of the restaurant, down to the dishwasher and cleaners, and decide how many bodies you need to fill them. Have enough staff hired and trained before opening day so you can do a soft opening. Invite friends and family to be the final test for staff

Do you want your staff to look and work as a team? Maybe a uniform would be an option. There are many full body or small aprons for servers and bartenders to wear that give your staff that clean, sharp look.

Know and Trust Your Menu

If you’re running the restaurant, you must know every detail – including the kitchen and the menu. A restaurant won’t function if you don’t have a solidmenu to sell

Bring on a chef if you are not comfortable with cooking. Make sure the chef is on the same page as you or things will end as quickly as they started. You must be able to trust that your chef will keep the back of house performing smoothly so customers won’t be negatively affected.

These are just a few of many pointers to help guide you as you open up your restaurant. It will take a lot of time, money and dedication to become successful. Don’t shy away from the work. If this is your path, you already have the passion then needed to succeed.
