An outdoor wedding can be a lot of fun and a unique experience for you and your guests. However, it can also be a disaster if not planned properly. Here are a few things to keep in mind when planning your dream outdoor wedding.
Pick The Right Time Of Year
This may seem obvious, but it really is something to think about. If you have always wanted a June wedding, but you live in Texas, June might be a tough time to hold a wedding outside when it is 100 degrees. On the flip side, a Minnesota outdoor wedding in December could get ugly.
Consider The Time Of Day
Not only do you need to consider the time of year, the time of day you plan your wedding can be important. Try to plan it so that the sun will not be in everyone’s eyes during the ceremony, and if it will be warm outside, a sunset wedding can be a good option since it might be a bit cooler that time of day.
Wind-Proof Your Setup
Make sure that whatever setup and decorations you use can withstand the wind. Tie down anything that could blow away, and use heavy chairs that will not fall over with a big gust. Do not rely too much on candles as a decoration either, since they will probably not stay lit.
Have A Good Sound System
Sound often does not carry as well outside. Keep this in mind when planning for your audio setup. Make sure you have some kind of system that can be loud. However, make sure the sound is clear as well. A high volume will do you no good if it is not understandable.
Consider Your Guests
Think about what your guests might be experiencing and plan for it. For example, have some bottles of water and fans available in case it is hot that day. Also, prepare for bugs. You never know when mosquitoes, flies, or other pesky insects might invade your ceremony and disrupt it. Prepare for this by having some citronella or other insect repellents handy.
Make Sure And Get The Proper Licenses
If you are having an outdoor wedding in a public area, make sure that you have any licenses necessary to hold your event at that location. Not only will this keep your event from being disrupted, it will keep any other groups from booking that area as well.
Set Up Early
Setting up early is especially important if you are having your wedding in a public place. This will let other groups that might be spending time in that area know that there is an event there that day, giving them time to get out of your way.
Have A Backup Plan
No matter how much you plan, nature might have another plan for you. Make sure you do have some kind of backup plan in case it rains or some other natural phenomenon or circumstance prevents you from having your ceremony outside. Preferably, have a place as close to your outdoor location as possible booked in case you need it.
