Tips for Finding Work as a Travel Blogger

By Twothirstytravellers @2thirstytrav

For many of us, the dream is to combine travel and working together so that we can make money while exploring the world. For those of you who are stuck in the 9-5, it might seem absolutely impossible, but the truth is you can live your wildest dreams. It will just take a little planning and probably some savings. You can either choose to pave out your own path of employment, or if you need a little help finding a great job, you can use recruitment specialists to help you find a job that really matches your skill set.

What Jobs are Open to Travel Bloggers
Using a Blog to Make Money
For starters, you can start your own blog which can eventually lead to an income. There are different ways to monetise your blog from direct advertising, sponsored trips and of course – affiliate advertising. Each of those options have their own pros and cons. Many travel bloggers prefer not to monetise their blogs and instead earn income in other ways.

Get Into Freelance Writing
Thanks to the Internet a lot of doors have been opened in terms of location independent income. So much copy has been created on the Internet, and continues to be created each day, that there is a huge demand for copywriters. If you are going to pursue freelance writing online, be warned that you might face fierce competition from individuals in countries with significantly lower living costs. Despite this challenge, it is still possible to make a great full time wage from freelance writing and many bloggers go down this route.

Master Social Media
Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest – the list goes on. Each of these social media platforms have changed the way we interact with each other and media. They have also influenced how we interact with businesses too. Many bloggers tend to get really involved in social media to promote their blog and connect with their readership. These skills are desirable for any companies that appreciate the value of social media and engaging with their audience. Many bloggers I know have been commissioned to provide social media campaigns for companies and it is a great way to make money, especially if you like social media a lot anyway.

Leading a Tour
A number of the most popular bloggers, such as Nomadic Matt and Wandering Earl offer small group tours. This is a great way for them to make money, while getting to share some of their favorite places with their fans. Although this isn’t really a typical job, if you hosted enough tours each year you could probably pay for your entire year’s traveling, while traveling. I am not sure if this is something I could do as I really love my personal space, but I think it would be such a fun way to meet new people, connect with some of your readership and of course, make money.

Being a travel blogger is more than a hobby –  it can be a career if you go into it with the right mind frame.
