Tips for Dealing with Pre-Wedding Jitters

What do those pre-wedding jitters really mean? How should you react to them and what do you do about them when they sneak up on you? We have some tips for what to do and how to handle them right here.

Plenty of people deal with pre-wedding jitters as the big day approaches, but many have a hard time deciphering between legitimate cold feet and normal nervousness that is accompanied by excitement. Some cases of cold feet are actually justified, but that doesn’t mean that all pre-wedding jitters are signs that you should call off the wedding.

Here are some tips to help you narrow down the real source of your fears and what to do about them:

Write it down. Start writing down what you are afraid of and why. This will help you identify the source of your fears and whether or not they are caused by the relationship itself or by the wedding event and planning process. Also, remind yourself why you are marrying your partner in the first place. Write down the qualities you love about them, the happy times you’ve spent together, and any memories that have made a great impression on you.

Talk to someone. It helps to talk to married couples who have been married for a long time to discover their secrets for success. It also helps to talk to a priest, pastor, or rabbi to help with the nerves. A third party can always help give you an outsider’s opinion and help you see things from a different perspective. You can also see a therapist on your own or have a few sessions as a couple a few months before the wedding.

Take a break. Pre-wedding jitters are often a result of wedding planning madness. To refocus and revaluate how you feel about the marriage, take a break from the planning process and all things wedding related. Take a weekend and get away or pamper yourself for a day at the spa.
