Tips and tricks for functional mom style

I obviously had no idea what I was doing when I became a mom. I still don’t! Each day is a learning curve and one new lesson after another. People always say that when you have kids, you have to put them before yourself. And yes, I agree with that to some extent. However, I’m also a firm believer that you have to take care of yourself before you can take care of anyone else.

My style has changed a lot in some ways but in other ways, it hasn’t. I still wear what I want and what I feel good in. And as long as it’s functional (I’m not going to wear strapless bras or strappy heels on the reg duh) I don’t see the need to change my look because I’m a mom.

I like to make little tweaks to my style if I feel like it’s not 100% functional.

So here are some tips and tricks for functional mom style:

1) I wouldn’t wear this to the playground but maybe a Friday night family dinner out. You can change your style for the occasion and don’t have to fit into any type of mold.

2) I wore flat sandals to make it comfortable and functional. If I was going out with the girls, maybe I would throw on strappy heels. Try different combinations and play with different options.

3) Backpacks are my secret weapon. I can fit EVERYTHING in here; laptop, snacks, bandages, you name it… I got it. Just call me Mary Poppins, k? Having a big bag is a must. Bonus points if it doesn’t look like it’s carrying all your kids’ junk in it and just looks like a stylish bag. And that’s exactly what this Baggallini bag from Zappos does! Perfect for everyday trips to the park or playground but also perfect for travel, hiking, wherever your little heart desires.

Moral of the story? Be you. Be functional. Be trendy, or don’t. Be COMFORTABLE and make sure you have everything you need in the process.
