“The Legend of Cockpunch” is a fiction work by Ferriss, with all of the proceeds from its sale going to his charitable foundation.
“The Legend of Cockpunch,” an Ethereum project co-created by renowned author and podcaster Tim Ferriss, is today ‘s top NFT market winner, having leveraged a sold-out mint into secondary market demand to propel the collection to the top of the sales charts. “Cockpunch” is billed as “emergent long fiction” by Ferriss, the author of “The 4-Hour Workweek” and other best-sellers. It is made up of 5,555 images of anthropomorphized rooster characters, each with different traits and weapons. At the beginning of the day, each NFT cost 0.3 ETH, which is about $370.
All in all, the primary sale, which was done through Premint’s new minting platform, managed to bring in a little more than $2 million, all of which moved to the author’s own Saisei Foundation. The foundation helps pay for research into treatments for psychedelics, mental health, living longer, and more.
Since the sale, prices on the secondary market have gone up, and the NFTs are now for sale on OpenSea for 1.4 ETH ($1,725), which is the most popular market. They are also selling: OpenSea’s market-wide chart shows that over $3.3 million worth of secondary sales have been made so far, which is more than CryptoPunks and Azuki have made in the last 24 hours.
The PFPs are described as simply the beginning of Ferriss’ project ideas. Ferriss stated in a podcast conversation with Internet entrepreneur and co-founder of Web3 startup Proof, Kevin Rose, that he had written the complete first season of a narrative podcast that will detail the lore of the project’s imaginary fantasy world.
Additionally, a commercial rights grant allows NFT owners to exploit their characters to generate derivative artwork and projects. With other popular collections, such as the Bored Ape Yacht Club and CryptoPunks, holders of NFTs have purchased virtual bands and supergroups, attire, themed restaurants and drinks, and other products.
Prior to this year, Ferriss issued his first-ever NFT as part of Grails, a promotion where owners of Rose’s Proof Collective NFTs can mint one of several limited-edition artwork pieces without originally knowing the authors of each. The author’s first published work of fiction, titled “How to Start a War,” was minted by only sixty individuals.
