TikTok Picks Oracle as ‘Trusted Tech Partner’ In The USA, Rejects Microsoft

TikTok, the Chinese video sharing platform, has would have chose Oracle as its "trusted technology partner" for its operations in the United States. The deal came just an hour after the Chinese company turned down a deal from Microsoft.

An executive order from US President Trump gave ByteDance until September 15 to sell TikTok's US business to a US company, or withdraw from the country.

The TikTok case

Following the order, TikTok chose Oracle as its "trusted technology partner", rejecting Microsoft's offer to acquire the Chinese video-sharing platform. Several US companies, including Microsoft, Twitter and Oracle, were in the race to acquire TikTok's US operations.

Microsoft aimed to acquire TikTok's operations not only in the United States, but also in Australia, New Zealand and Canada.

Chinese apps, games and products have been banned in countries like India, Pakistan, and the United States. TikTok has been a platform that has been criticized. Even when the decree against ByteDance ordered the company to sell, it found a way around the problem, by partnering with Oracle. This is a smart move because Oracle is in the right books of the US administration, which can help TikTok cut some corners.

Oracle is also a leading supplier to defense and federal agencies across the United States. The gigantic database software company could provide the data security of the U.S. citizens the executive order sought. President Trump too Okay Oracle being a "big company" to take TikTok last month.
