After India, the popular social media platform TikTok has also been banned in America. The United States Supreme Court has upheld the law banning the video sharing app passed by the Biden administration keeping national security in mind. Media FP said so in their report. This law is supposed to be effective from 19th January i.e. tomorrow.

TikTok will be shut down in America from Sunday morning. That means millions of Americans will no longer have access to the app. The argument of protecting freedom of speech raised by TikTok's lawyers did not hold up in the Supreme Court. The justices observed, the US administration has ample reason to be concerned about the privacy of citizens' information on TikTok.

Experts believe that this ban is a blow to China's ByteDance, the owner of TikTok. Note that last year, the Biden administration passed a law to ban Chinese TikTok in America. However, alternative routes are also kept open. The court indicated that selling TikTok to an American company could avoid the ban.

Incidentally, Donald Trump will be sworn in as the President of the United States on January 20. And the former government is leaving everything related to this ban on him. As a result, he can make a decision about the implementation of the law only after assuming the responsibility of the President. Notably, the CEO of TikTok will be present at Trump's swearing-in ceremony.
